Properties

• Chemical Stability: Anhydrous sodium sulfate is chemically stable and unreactive. Can be reduced to sodium sulfide by carbon at high temperatures.

• Phase Change Property: Sodium sulfate decahydrate melts at about 32.4°C (basis for phase-change heat storage materials).

• Hygroscopicity: The anhydrous form is slightly hygroscopic; the decahydrate effloresces in dry air, turning into a white powder.

• Neutrality: Its aqueous solution is a neutral salt.

Main Uses

1.Detergent & Soap Industry: 

•  Used as a filler and builder to adjust product viscosity and enhance cleaning performance.

2.Pulp & Paper Industry:

•  Used as a makeup chemical in the Kraft pulping process to replenish sodium and sulfur losses during digestion.

3.Glass Industry: 

•  Used as a fining agent to help remove fine bubbles from the glass melt.

4.Textile Dyeing Industry: 

•  Used as a leveling agent and dyeing accelerator to promote even dyeing and improve dye uptake.

5.Chemical Manufacturing: 

•  A primary raw material for producing sodium sulfide, sodium silicate (water glass), ultramarine blue, etc.

6.Cooling & Energy Storage: 

•  Sodium sulfate decahydrate is used in low-temperature cool storage and solar thermal storage systems due to its phase change latent heat.

7.Feed & Food: 

•  Used as a sodium supplement in animal feed and as a processing aid in food production, complying with relevant standards.

8.Pharmaceuticals:

•  Used as a laxative (Glauber's salt).
