Product Detail

SBS

CAS CODE : 9003-55-8

Product Overview

SBS is a high-performance thermoplastic elastomer that perfectly combines the elasticity of rubber with the processability of plastic. It can be rapidly shaped via thermoplastic processing without vulcanization, and the material is recyclable, making it eco-friendly and economical. With its excellent elasticity, toughness, and adhesion properties, SBS is a core material in footwear, asphalt modification, polymer toughening, and adhesives.

 Properties

  • Physical Character: Exhibits rubber-like high elasticity at room temperature and can be melt-processed at elevated temperatures, combining the properties of both rubber and plastic.

  • Mechanical Properties: Excellent tensile strength and elastic recovery, wear and slip-resistant. Properties are significantly influenced by the styrene/butadiene ratio and molecular structure (linear or radial).

  • Weather Resistance: Poor resistance to UV and ozone; requires stabilizers for outdoor applications.

  • Processability: Thermoplastic elastomer; requires no vulcanization. Can be directly shaped by injection molding, extrusion, blow molding, etc. Scrap is recyclable.

Main Uses

1.Footwear:

• The classic application for shoe soles, offering excellent wear resistance, slip resistance, and lightness.

2.Asphalt Modification:

• Significantly improves the high/low-temperature performance, rutting resistance, and fatigue resistance of asphalt for high-grade roads and waterproof membranes.

3.Polymer Modification:

• Used as a toughening agent, widely blended with plastics like PP, PS, HDPE to improve impact resistance.

4.Adhesives & Sealants:

• Used in pressure-sensitive adhesives, hot-melt adhesives, and sealants, known for strong initial tack and good holding power.

5.Consumer Goods:

• Used in soft-touch components like toys, grips, stationery, and utensil handles.

6.Medical Devices:

• Used in drip chambers, infusion tubes, seals, etc., requiring medical-grade grades.
